“The word anaklasis (ανάκλασις) denotes a phenomenon in poetry: a modification of rhythmic feet through the exchange of strong and weak elements — long or stressed syllables with short or unstressed ones. The term was brought to wider attention by Krzysztof Penderecki, who used it as the title of one of his most important works. In his avant-garde composition from 1959 for 42 string instruments and six percussion groups, he experiments with noise, silence and murmur, exploring the limits of sound.
At the same time, Marek Piasecki explores the possibilities of photography. He experiments with close-ups and framing, searching for textures that alter the rhythm of light. He composes images by shifting accents, focusing on blurred areas and concentrating on edges. Another meaning of the word anaklasis is the refraction of light.
The publication brings together photographs taken by Marek Piasecki between 1952 and 1960. Among the figures appearing in the images is Joanna Turowicz-Piasecka. A significant number of the negatives bear the handwritten note “Walls and Murals” on their original sleeves.
