In 2016, Ruslan Hrushchak captured a compelling moment in Kyiv, Ukraine. The photograph shows a fisherman on the Dnipro River, engaged in his favorite pastime. Fishing holds a special place in Ukrainian culture, often serving as a form of meditation and a way to socialize with friends.
Ruslan Hrushchak is a Ukrainian-born photographer specializing in portraiture and documentary photography. Based in Leipzig, Germany, he studied photography at the Ostkreuzschule Berlin and has a background in journalism and computer science. His debut book, The Road Beyond, featuring photographs from Ukraine (2010–2020) and poetry by Iryna Tsilyk, was published in 2022 by Kominek.
