Arko Datto is an Indian photographer based in Kolkata. Before turning to photography, he studied physics and mathematics in Paris. His long-term projects look at how politics, surveillance and climate change affect people's lives in South and Southeast Asia, and he often works at night with flash.

Where do we go when the final wave hits is part of his long-term project on the Sundarbans, the mangrove delta between India and Bangladesh, where the forests are shrinking and the sea is rising. Between 2017 and 2020, Datto photographed the islands at night, using strong flash to show the people who live there and the land around them as the water slowly takes over. The book is hand-bound in an edition of 150 copies, and each copy has been dipped in muddy water. It was shortlisted for the Author Book Award at Les Rencontres d'Arles 2026.
