Werner Amann (b. 1969) is a German photographer. He studied photography and film design in Dortmund. His photobooks include American, which won first prize at the Fotobookfestival Kassel in 2010, and Kein Morgen (Spector Books), a collection of portraits from 1990s club nights and raves.

This Feels Safe brings together photographs Amann made over three years along the coasts and deserts of California and Mexico. Waves, brightly coloured cacti, rocks and close-up faces of friends lying in the sand appear next to scenes of prayer, beach parties and a military helicopter flying low overhead. Mixing portraits, documentary pictures and four short texts by Amann, the book looks at how people connect with each other and with nature, and shows a world that feels both fragile and full of life.
