This image is of the foyer of the former commercial side of Genex Tower, Belgrade. Although the company went bankrupt in 2014, until last year this space was still tended to by Jovan, the concierge of the building. Coming through the glass doors, I often heard his music drifting through a room that had never left 1981. He played everything from Chopin to Django Reinhardt, while chain smoking cigarettes and drinking the most bitter instant coffee I’ve ever tasted.
